In a spirited drive toward environmental sustainability, Kayapalat, in collaboration with Save The Children and SHIFT, organized a School 2 School Campaign aimed at empowering young students in Pipra, Mahottari, to take charge of reducing single-use plastics in their schools. The campaign served as a platform to transfer essential knowledge and leadership skills to teenagers, encouraging them to take action for a plastic-free future.
The workshop was facilitated by Diwakar Uprety, founder of Kayapalat, who guided the students through insightful brainstorming sessions. Uprety encouraged the teens to critically examine the presence of single-use plastics within their school premises, prompting them to think deeply about how to address and eliminate this issue. With an emphasis on open dialogue and creative thinking, Uprety supported the students as they explored the environmental consequences of plastic pollution and shared ideas for sustainable alternatives.
The event also saw the dedicated involvement of Kayapalat members Mamta, Jyoti, and Balram, who coordinated with students and emphasized how collective ideas could fuel impactful campaigns. The team provided guidance on structuring effective solutions and shared valuable insights on how youth-led initiatives can inspire broader community change. Through a blend of group activities and interactive games, students were able to visualize the direct impact of their actions and feel empowered to make a difference.
Throughout the campaign, students collaborated in small groups to assess the problems posed by single-use plastics and brainstorm innovative solutions. They devised practical steps to transform their school into a “plastic-free zone,” including setting up waste segregation practices, promoting reusable materials, and organizing awareness drives among peers and the local community. The teens presented their findings and proposed action plans, showcasing a range of creative ideas to drive long-lasting environmental change within their school.
A key outcome of the workshop was a unified commitment from students to eliminate single-use plastics from their daily routines, proving that young minds are not only aware of pressing environmental issues but are also eager to contribute to a cleaner, greener future. This collaborative effort from Kayapalat and its partners has ignited a sense of responsibility in the young participants, empowering them to lead by example within their school and beyond.
The success of Kayapalat’s School 2 School Campaign highlights the transformative potential of youth-led initiatives. Through knowledge sharing and hands-on activities, Kayapalat, Save The Children, and SHIFT have fostered an enthusiastic generation of environmental advocates determined to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future.
