Hawa Badlau Campaign is a youth-led public awareness and civic action campaign initiated by Kayapalat to address the growing challenge of air pollution in Nepal. The campaign follows a participatory, evidence-based, and community-driven methodology that combines research, advocacy, digital engagement, and public action to encourage collective responsibility for improving air quality.

The methodology of the campaign is based on the following approaches:

1. Evidence Generation and Issue Identification

The campaign begins with understanding the existing situation of air pollution through research, data collection, and community-level observation. Kayapalat collects information related to air quality, pollution sources, public experiences, and health impacts to create evidence-based messages. Tools such as air quality monitoring, surveys, consultations, and secondary research are used to identify key concerns and priority areas.

2. Youth Mobilization and Capacity Building

Recognizing young people as key agents of change, the campaign engages youth volunteers, students, and community members through orientations, discussions, and awareness sessions. Youth are equipped with knowledge about air pollution, climate justice, public health, and civic responsibility so they can become informed advocates and campaign ambassadors.

3. Public Awareness and Creative Communication

The campaign uses creative communication methods to make the issue of air pollution understandable and relatable to the public. Through social media campaigns, storytelling, visual content, quizzes, public messages, and community engagement activities, Hawa Badlau encourages people to understand the connection between air quality, daily choices, and public health.

4. Community Engagement and Dialogue

The campaign creates spaces for citizens, experts, government representatives, and stakeholders to discuss challenges and possible solutions. Public dialogues, consultations, and interactive sessions are organized to amplify citizens’ voices and promote shared responsibility among different actors.

5. Advocacy and Policy Engagement

Based on evidence and public feedback, the campaign engages with relevant stakeholders to advocate for stronger action on air pollution. The campaign promotes dialogue with government bodies, policymakers, media, and civil society organizations to encourage effective policies, better implementation, and accountable governance.

6. Digital and Public Campaign Action

Hawa Badlau combines online and offline approaches to reach a wider audience. Digital platforms are used to spread awareness, share information, and mobilize citizens, while offline activities such as campaigns, public interactions, and community actions create direct engagement and visibility.

7. Reflection, Learning, and Sustainability

The campaign regularly documents lessons, feedback, and community responses to improve future interventions. By building a network of informed youth and active citizens, Hawa Badlau aims to create long-term behavioral change and sustain public demand for clean air and healthier communities.
